The project offers a workshop programme for a group of young people (from 3 to 20 participants), aimed at creating a sound-based, visual and participatory experience as part of the Segni New Generations Festival. The programme consists of three one-hour online sessions, starting in September, during which the group will be invited to reflect together on the meaning of a party as a space for meeting, connection and collective imagination.
Starting from the question “What kind of party would I like to have?”, the sessions will focus on exploring and creating the elements that make up an event: music, space, rituals, images and relationships between people. Through shared listening sessions, playlist creation, the discovery of songs and soundscapes, participants will be invited to share their own ideas of what a party can be, collecting impressions, memories and desires through conversations and short voice recordings. The participants’ voices (recorded or live) will then become part of the sound composition of the first public event, intertwining with the music to create a soundscape made of words, sounds and atmospheres.
At the same time, the group will work on creating the visual identity of the party: fabrics, drawings and graphic elements inspired by the festival’s symbolic animal will help transform an anonymous space into a recognisable place that belongs to everyone. As part of the programme, a small DIY workshop will also be offered, inviting participants to create lamps, small light installations and accessories for the party using recycled materials or objects they already have at home. This will be an opportunity to reflect on the value of reuse, stimulate creativity and leave a tangible mark on the creation of the party environment.
The outcome of the programme will take place in two distinct moments during the festival:
Friday | 6:45–8:00 pm – listening session / ambient DJ set curated by Bosco Marino
A collective listening session curated by the artist as DJ, featuring a predominantly ambient music selection. The playlist will be developed from the listening experiences and conversations that emerged during the sessions with the young participants. Their voices, reflections and ideas about the party will be integrated into the sound composition through short recorded vocal contributions, creating an immersive experience where music and storytelling come together. A more intimate and suspended moment, dedicated to listening and creating a shared atmosphere.
Saturday | 10:15 pm–1:00 am – open decks / participatory party in dialogue with Baccanti Rave by Alessandro Balestrieri, the performance preceding the party
The second moment takes the form of a participatory party created together with the participants. The DJ booth becomes an open space for experimentation: the playlist is collectively developed through the tracks selected during the programme, and participants will be able to contribute to the musical selection, share their listening experiences and help shape the rhythm of the evening. The party space will also be transformed through small scenographic interventions created by the group: fabrics, drawings, graphic marks, visual elements, lamps and small objects made during the DIY workshop will create a temporary landscape that reflects the journey they have taken together. The party thus becomes an open-ended experience, where the audience is not simply a spectator but an active part of a shared experience: a space for listening, meeting, experimenting and reflecting on the value of being together.
The project places music and the party at the heart of the experience as tools for connection and participation, giving young participants an active role in shaping a collective experience while offering an opportunity to imagine and reflect on the political and ethical meaning of the “party” as a collective and transformative ritual.
