CONCEPT
A small flock of birds, taking flight for the first time, learns to embrace the sky and listen to the movement of the wind.
As these young migrants set off on their journey, they discover that even across distance, a bond remains — as delicate as a thread of air — connecting them all.
A poetic journey exploring the interconnectedness between beings and spaces, where the sky becomes home and separation does not break a bond, but reveals it.
THE SHOW
Il Coro dell'Alba is a puppetry performance for children aged 5 and up, using birds as a metaphor for the bonds that connect us and keep us close even across distance.
The story follows a flock of birds, all different from one another but born and raised together in an urban setting, inside the same apartment building, where each one has its own little home.
After a powerful and unexpected storm, this building made of wire mesh and bars opens up, and the outside world is revealed to them. Nature is all around, and the sky is endless.
For the first time, Cingiagioie and his friends are free to take flight and discover the world. But how difficult it is to leave home, to face separation and parting. How can we say goodbye to those we love without knowing when we will see them again? The air has always told us the answer: wherever we are, we are together.
PUPPETS AND SHADOWS
The show brings to life a world inhabited by puppets made from wire and recycled materials. Light and mobile, the figures express the bodies and nature of the birds: first confined, then free to fly.
On stage, a narrator guides the story, giving voice to all the characters, while two puppeteers bring the puppets to life. At the beginning, the three performers engage directly with the audience, creating an immediate connection and introducing the narrative world.
The stage space takes shape through the use of a light table, which allows images and visual compositions to be projected in real time, telling the story of a constantly changing world.
Shadows accompany the story on a more symbolic level, making visible the dimensions of what cannot be seen: time, space and the bonds between the characters.
The sound design, based on birdsong and human voices, is an integral part of the dramaturgy.
Sound, puppets and light are in constant dialogue, creating a unified theatrical experience in which every element is connected to the others.
BEYOND THE SHOW
The Il Coro dell’Alba project goes beyond the performance itself, expanding into an educational dimension through an immersive workshop available on request, which accompanies the audience.
The workshop is designed to encourage children to take an active role and engage in sensory learning, allowing them to explore, through play and creativity, the themes of the show, such as freedom, separation and interconnectedness.
Inspired by the natural materials used to create the puppets and by the artistic practices that shape the performance, children are invited to explore the concept of “connection” through hands-on activities involving construction, movement and artistic expression. In this context, the puppeteers guide the children through a process of discovery, encouraging curiosity, reflection and cooperation.
IL CORO DELL'ALBA AND QUANTUM ENTANGLEMENT
At the heart of Il Coro dell’Alba lies a profound reflection on the invisible connection between all living beings and the environment around them. This idea of interconnectedness, which runs throughout the performance, is rooted in one of the most fascinating and mysterious concepts in contemporary physics: quantum entanglement.
It is a concept that describes how two particles can become correlated in such a way that the state of one instantly affects the other, even at a distance, without any apparent physical connection between them. It is an idea that challenges the laws of classical physics, suggesting that what appears to be separate is, in fact, intimately connected at a deeper level.
The reflection behind the show starts precisely here: from the idea that everything that appears separate and distant is, in reality, connected by invisible threads that link us across time and space. Just like two entangled particles, every living being — human, animal or part of the natural world — is connected to all others through a network of relationships that extend beyond our ordinary perceptions.
Il Coro dell’Alba explores this theory through the metaphor of birds in flight and their migrations, a symbolic journey that highlights how each individual movement contributes to the collective movement of the entire flock.
Within the performance, the sparrow who learns to fly and explore the sky becomes the voice of a reflection on separation and connection. Distance and remoteness, although they may seem like forms of disconnection, are instead dimensions that do not break a bond but reveal its full power.
WHY TALK ABOUT THIS TODAY
Children are growing up in a world where distance is increasingly present: changes, moves, relationships that evolve.
Offering them images and tools to think about connection is essential.
The idea that a bond can exist even without physical proximity can help them:
A GUIDE TO THE EXPERIENCE: WHAT TO EXPECT
Il Coro dell’Alba is a performance that uses visual and sound-based language. Children will see puppets animated in full view, performers present on stage, and images taking shape before their eyes through light.
The narrative unfolds through situations, transformations and evocative moments. There are moments of silence and unhurried passages that invite observation and listening.
Shadows play a central role, as does sound, which accompanies and guides the experience. Some children will follow the story, while others may be particularly drawn to the images or sounds: both ways of experiencing the performance are valid and form part of the audience’s experience.
The show also works on an emotional and intuitive level. Preparing children for this kind of experience — where they can observe, listen and allow themselves to be surprised — enables them to experience it more fully.
THE “DA ME A TE” WORKSHOP
Alongside the performance, the project offers an immersive workshop entitled “Da me a te” (“From Me to You”), conceived as a space for direct and participatory experience.
The workshop involves setting up a previously agreed environment that plays an active role in the learning process. The space is transformed into an explorable landscape, filled with simple, transformable materials, lights, shadows and opportunities for interaction.
Here, children are not given rigid instructions, but are guided through small invitations to explore. The theme of connection takes shape through their actions: in materials that intertwine, movements that influence one another, and relationships that emerge spontaneously.
The experience is sensory and collective. Children build, observe, move and collaborate. Learning takes place through doing and sharing.
The puppeteers act as facilitators: they observe, support and encourage, without directing. In this way, every child can find their own way of engaging with the theme.
AN EXPERIENCE THAT CONTINUES
The performance, the workshop and the work carried out in the classroom form a single journey. Children see, experience and then process what they have encountered, transforming the experience into thought, storytelling and relationships.
Il Coro dell’Alba offers teachers a valuable tool for approaching fundamental themes of growing up with sensitivity and depth. Not through explanations, but through experience.
An invitation to look up at the sky and discover that, even when we move away from one another, there is always an invisible thread that connects us.
